Make Money Blogging - Why You Need a Great Blog Title

By Tracey A Edwards

If you are creating a blog for the purpose of making money then no doubt you already know the importance of traffic. No matter how interesting your blog is, how valuable your information is, if no-one ever finds it then they only people it is going to benefit is your best friend (because you sent him your link) and your dog (because he gets to sleep at your feet while you type away). But just how do you get that traffic so you can make money blogging?

Before you even start thinking about writing your first post you need to think about your blog title. The title of your blog is the first thing that users will see if they find your site on search engines so it needs to be something compelling enough to click on, however it also needs to take into account basic SEO with the sort of keywords that people will be searching on.

Let's look at an example. Let's say you want to blog about Grey's Anatomy because it's your favorite television show and you love writing about it. (Note: You don't have to write about typical 'money-making' topics to make money with your blog - that's what is so great about blogging). First we need to think about what sort of keywords that your readers might be searching about. "Grey's Anatomy" is an obvious keyword but what else might people be searching for about this show?

The free version of Wordtracker is one of my favorite keyword tools and after typing in Greys Anatomy it tells us that there are approximately 1103 searches per day (which is fantastic) however after searching for it on Google itself it reveals that you would be competing with over five million other webpages which is far too competitive to get traffic. Looking down our list of other keywords then you spot this one which could work well: "Grey's Anatomy Episodes" which only competes with just over 11,000 other web pages and still gets ok traffic. You could easily write one blog post per episode.

Now that our SEO is done, we also need to consider making our blog title exciting to make it stand out from the other webpages. Since you are writing a fan blog on the TV show something like "Grey's Anatomy Episodes from a Fan's Perspective" or just simply "Grey's Anatomy Episodes - My Blog" could work. Now you have a blog title that works for both SEO and something a reader might want to click on.

Blogging For Money - It's Easy and Fun

By Peter Halpin

Whatever you may, or may not, know about blogging, it is here to stay ... and whether you're big into internet marketing or just trying to make an extra few bucks online, you really should know something about the power of blogging for money.

The best thing about blogs is that they can cost nothing to set up except your time. You can pay a very small sum for a domain name (about $10 per year) and use some free blogging software such as Wordpress, to do the job - but the bottom line is, that unlike most other money-making schemes you'll hear about, with blogging there is none of your hard-earned capital at risk, nor do you have to rely on or pay someone else to provide data streams, information etc.

For example, a few years ago I did a course on how to trade options online. The information was invaluable, but in the end, I still needed about five to ten thousand dollars to put at risk to make some money. I could make a pile of money from doing so, but there was also a risk I could lose it. Not only this, but I was required to make decisions each day about whether or not to invest, so I had to be at my computer, watching the market, at a specific time of day.

Blogging on the other hand, is something you can do from anywhere in the world, at any time of day - and the only thing that it requires is a bit of research and some consistent effort putting some written material together, much like what you're reading right now. When you combine that with the fact that you can sell information which people can pay for and download, without any active effort from you, then you'll agree that blogging for money and internet marketing in general has to be the best business in the world.

How many rental properties would you have to buy and how much capital would you need, to make a passive income of $5,000 or more per month? (A "passive income" as opposed to an "active income" is one where you don't have to exchange your time for money)

If you already have a "reseller" type hosting account, which allows you unlimited websites for around $20 per month, blogs cost nothing to set up, except about $10 per annum for a domain name. All you need then, is a few hours of your time to instal blogging software such as Wordpress on your site, then think of something to write and just do it. Your blog will then sit out there in cyberspace for the total cost of $10 per year, just doing it's thing for you.

But if I wanted to, I could've even set up the blog itself for free, using a free blogging site such as blogger.com. This blogging website is owned by Google and like many of their other services, it's free to use.

So why have you chosen to buy a domain name and publish your own blog when you could've done the same thing for free, you may ask?

Good question!

The downside with free blogging sites, is that your content is legally owned by the site owner. If the site owner doesn't like what you've published, they can shut down your blog and don't have to explain why. With you own blog, you have control over your own content and website appearance. It belongs to you.

There's also another good reason for it. You see, it's one thing to write a blog about something, it's another to get people to read it. If you're blogging for money, you want visitors to your site. Getting people to visit your website is called "driving traffic" to it. No traffic means no sales. Having your own blog with a domain name of your choice presents greater opportunities to drive traffic to your online pages.

So the recipe for blogging for money online is simple.

First, organize a reseller hosting account. Next, buy a domain name (but if you want to pay nothing at all, just use a free blogging site)

Then, drive traffic to your blog using the best techniques.

Finally, receive payment for products you own and sell, or products you recommend and receive a commission for.

Believe me, this works. I've been doing it for a while and have made thousands just from blogging. It can work for you too.

There are many ways to get people to visit your blog. One of the best and most comprehensive books I have read about blogging for money on the internet, is Blog Your Wage by Tony Shepherd.

Blog Or Website? Which One Do I Need?

By Pamela Jacob

Many moons ago websites were the only thing that a business or person had to showcase his business or expertise (on the Internet). Now with the advent and explosion of blogs many people have chosen to use blogs over websites.

Depending on your business and what you are trying to achieve most businesses need both.

There are exceptions to every rule, however, using both will give you a big advantage over using one over the other.

What is the difference?

There is a big difference - a website is a carefully thought out and executed store (for lack of a better word). It is like a corporate office or an exclusive piece of property. The look and feel of the interfaces are branded to attract your perfect clients and to create an experience for the visitor. The domain name is an important piece of your branding as well and should be an extension of the business.

A blog on the other hand is more of a social networking site. A blog can brand you as the expert in a certain field or gradually help you to become a well known personality. It has constantly changing content and is made to interact with visitors.

It is like inviting someone into your home or to a coffee shop to chat or to tell them about things they find interesting or useful. A blog can have its own domain name but it is of less importance - that it be named a business name.

A website and a blog go toward hand in hand. Well built websites selling services and/or products will stay pretty static.

While a blog will back link to your website and provide the communication so vital to keeping in touch with your clients and potential clients, it also helps push up you rankings on the search engines.

A website will provide stable communication - on task messages about your product and/or service as well as various other items such as online portfolio, testimonials, e-commerce store, ability to accept payment through merchant accounts, policy and warranty information etc.

Anyone can set up a blog, sometimes it can be a challenge to make it look professional.

A website takes a lot more time, work and money. This works in your favor if you are trying to portray a successful image (,or you are successful and want them to know that).

I hope this clears up the debating; I see going on in cyberspace - to blog or not to blog:

Should I blog? (YES BLOG)

Is a website the same as a blog? (NO IT IS NOT).

Do I need both? (PROBABLY!)

Is your website an integral part of making money in your business? Then you need to "Create the image you need to attract the customers you want." Pamela Jacob, owner of Artista Design, can help you do just that. Specializing in all types of visual mediums she has been in the new media industry for over a decade. Where to Start Making Money For Your Blog

By P Mandown

So you want to make money blogging? Like most of you out there, I started my blog with the same intent. I didn't want a lot of expenses starting out, but I wanted to make money right away, a lot of money. What I quickly found, however, was the unlikely event of that ever happening. It takes time to make money online from scratch. Much less get your blog moving in the direction that makes you money without knowing exactly how to do it.

I poured over the internet in search of ideas that would cost me as little as possible, and I found all the schemes promising me all the money I'd ever need for the rest of my life for just a meager cost. Stupidly, I fell for a few, the really convincing ones [insert convincing pitch here, surrender paycheck]. Then when I realized I was paying out more than I was bringing in, I turned to more practical ways of making money online.

Enter Cashcrate. Cashcrate, a Get Paid To site (or GPT), pays you to fill out offers from their sponsors. It's free to join and you can make decent money while waiting for your blog to take off.

What you're doing is providing Cashcrate's sponsors with leads. Cashcrate gets paid for the leads and they pay you for taking the time to complete the sponsors' offers that generate these leads. Everybody wins.

You're going to get a ton of spam from all the offers, so my advice to you is get a separate email account for this. When filling out the offers use the same info you signed up with Cashcrate with or you won't get credited for the offer.

Skip offers requiring a credit card. Do only the 100% free offers. That way you won't have to keep track of any trial periods you are asked to fulfill.

When it comes time to get paid you've got to have at least twenty dollars in your account. And you won't get your payout until the 20th of the next month. No worries though, you will get paid and you can use that time to fill your blog with content. In the meantime, visit their forum and check out what others have made with the program.

Now the best way to make money online with Cashcrate is with referrals.

There's a 2-tier system to pays you 20%/10% on your referrals and on your referrals' referrals, respectively.

This is where to start making money for your blog while you work on getting backlinks, getting properly SEO'ed and for fine tuning all the other confusing tactics to make money blogging. Take your first payout check and get a domain name, get hosting from somewhere, use that money for your blog setup somehow. Cashcrate enabled me to do it with my blog. You can do it too with yours.

Get Your New Blog Noticed

By Nevil Darukhanawala

This article is for those few brave souls, who have just initiated their journey into blogging, and need that amazing high one gets when your blog is finally getting read by a substantial number of readers.

Please track your blog readers using services like Google Analytics, it just takes 10 minutes, and it will provide you with a vault of valuable information on your reader's preferences, where your readers come from, and how they interact with your blog.

For those of you thinking about right now "Hey, I like writing for the love of it, and I don't need any readers for approval", I would like to say kudos to you, and do continue the good work.

But if you are serious about sharing your hard work (its blood sweat and tears when you have to do it 5 times a week) with the millions of users searching blogs daily, then let's continue our journey down the rabbit hole.

A quick look at the statistics on Blogging - comScore MediaMetrix (August 2008)

" Total internet audience 188.9 million

" Blogs: 77.7 million unique visitors in the US alone

" Facebook: 41.0 million

" MySpace 75.1 million

Well that the good news!

But the bad news is that with the thousands of new blogs churning out each day, what hope is there for a reader interested in your topic to reach you. You many have written brilliant masterpieces, but how do you let others know that (remember most poets and artists die poor and unrecognized because they don't reach out to share themselves with others).

In this article, we will not get into details about the quality of your content, and its assumed you have written good clean copy. Good copy being informative, entertaining and engaging (Don't forget to get your keywords in the body content as well the labels/tags).

There are various ways to promote your blog and reach out to the millions out there. The strategies below will not only assist you in getting more traffic to your blog, but also get you higher rankings for your blog, as well as corporate site (if you have one).

Deep-Linking

Start a corporate blog for your employees, customer, vendors, associates and investors. The benefits of doing so are many, as seen in the trend where many corporate blogs are doing very well in building brand loyalty, customer loyalty and driving business through existing customers.

Also start a topic specific blog of your expertise. To give you an example of this, a SEO Expert Services Company, can start a blog on SEO tips, advise and attract marketing professionals, seo students, Internet marketing professionals, readers and businessman.

Now comes the easy part; Create relevant deep links between your corporate website pages, corporate blog posts and topic blog posts. Your website, corporate blog and topic blog are treated as separate sites as far as search engines go, so don't hesitate to use you're your content for link building purposes.

Each blog post is a potential to build another link to your corporate website. But don't overdo it. Search engines dont penalize a site for too many links (unless the site is just a whole bunch of links for the pure purposes of link farming, and trying to trick the search engines to give irrelevant results), but it could a big turn off for your readers who just want to enjoy the story and don't care much about your hair brained strategies to dominate the internet.

Cross-Linking

It's easy to create links when you are the master of your website and blogs, but how do we get other websites/ blogs to give the same quality links back to your blog.

As in the real world if you have to build a new contact, you would approach that person, introduce yourself, inform that person of the value you offer, and maintain a good relation with that person.

In the blog world building links is no different.

1. Approach websites that has content/target audience similar to your blogs and offer some additional value to their readers, or even better write a good intelligent review about some service/products that website is offering. Send a nice email highlighting the same with a link back to your blog post. Online marketers like collecting testimonials so there is great probability that they will link back to your blog.

2. Approach other bloggers who command high loyalty. Most of the time if you have a professional approach, a good pitch and a value proposition, most bloggers will not mind writing a small review and linking to your blog.

After all these bloggers need to create content daily, so offer them a helping hand. Many bloggers advocate semi-advertising in their posts, and bloggers define their tastes, preferences, likes and dislikes about brands all the time. So why not get onto the bandwagon.

Another way is to leave intelligent comment on the bloggers post with something nice to say about the blogger, and then give a small link to your blog to explain in detail. Most times the blogger will leave a good comment and not delete it. I don't personally use this method, but as they say, in this matter, flattery may get you what you want.

3. Some SEO experts and bloggers have good relations with other fellow bloggers. A good seo expert should be able to get some of these bloggers to write a good review and link to your blog/ website. It will drive traffic to your website and add to your link building campaign.

Create a RSS Feed

Most blog software's like Blogger allow users to create an automatic RSS feed. If you notice a RSS feed is a very simple page, no major formatting, no pictures and videos.

RSS also knows as "Real Simple Syndication" is a mechanism used to distribute content without depending on the browser or email client. Users subscribe to RSS feeds to get latest updates (headlines with a small brief) about their favorite websites/ blogs across the internet in one place.

In your case, your blog posts form part of content that can be syndicated across news/content feeds. Once your RSS feed is published, you can submit the feed to many of the feed aggregators and have your content/ blog post distributed across their network of users. You can start by using this link http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-submission.htm to submit your blog to many feeds.

Submit to Article Sites

Article sites are a great way for distributing your content to many sites without the fear of landing into soup for duplicate content. In addition you are building credibility as an expert in your domain, quality links, and driving traffic to your blog.

By submitting your blog posts to article submission sites having high page rank, you are basically syndicating the same content across various channels, getting links, and traffic. Now that's a good deal!

A note of warning, don't just submit your article to 1000 sites, rather be wise and work with a few key article sites. In this way it's easy to build a good relationship with those sites and their audiences, as they feel that you have not plastered your article across every living website in the world.

Also its easy to keep the momentum up, otherwise submitting each blog post to 1000 sites would be rather time consuming.

Go Social with your Blog

Social bookmarking is the next wave to hit the new media landscape. Millions of users surfing the internet now have a voice and can rate/bookmark and suggest websites, blogs and share their likes and dislikes with the billions of surfers.

Wikipedia describes social bookmarking as a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata.

In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.

Register your blog with services like digg, reddit, del.icio.us and stumbleupon. Give your readers an opportunity to suggest/ bookmark/tag your blog post across the social media landscape and watch the traffic come in.

Make a Noise

Hey you have worked hard to get your blog started. Now is the time to announce it to the world, atleast the online world. Submit your blog to blogger search engines like Technorati, and other blogging directories on the net. As you submit your blog to the various directories out there, your blog is reaching out to newer audiences.

You can also submit your blog to PR sites which allow companies to submit press releases and announcements. It may not do much for your rankings, but many journalists are known to scan press release sites for a good story. Could it be you?

You can also announce your blog by putting it on your visiting card, in your email footer, on your corporate website, Facebook (profile, posts on wall, comments etc), Youtube profile, Linkedin profile, and finally the good ol' word of mouth.

These should keep you busy for the next few months, and by then you will be raring to get into more advanced techniques of marketing and promoting your Blog. But that my friend's is another time, another story!

Why Writing For the Web is Different Than in Print

By Leia Mahalo

Introduction

Some experienced writer may think that writing for the web is not so different than in print. There are similarities, but there are other key factors that is different enough that print writers may rise an eyebrow.

Why writing in web is different than in print? One of the obvious answer is when you write in print you have a particular reader and though it will differ on your target audience, age group or mindset you will only have that to think about. Web writers on the other hand will have to think about that and the search engine algorithm used for their website to rank well.

Keyword density and frequency

One aspect of why writing for the web is different than in print is the use of keywords for the web. Keywords play an important part in search engine optimization. Web writers will repeat this keyword over and over in the same page. Print writers may balk in a word using so frequently, but for a web writer that is critical for the success of his webpage to rank well in the search results. It must not be overly done, although, keywords can be repeated without sacrificing on how the webpage is read. Web writers still, must take into account, that the end targets are still people, so they must do it as covertly as possible, not sounding too ridiculous, and that they convey their idea on the people who surfs the webpage. These same keywords even have to be researched as well, thus limiting the options of a web writer to convey his idea on the web. They must find innovative ways for that keyword to be incorporated in their webpage.

Other things to consider

There are a whole lot of other things to consider why writing in web is different than in print. One of them is that the web writers also have to take into account the limited volume of words they have to put in a page. This is because the web searcher spiders will cut off those in excess of its pre-programmed limit to index. There is also the Meta description tags, the title tags which will be again be favorable if the keywords appear in them. Then there is the URL. Again, this is most effective if the keyword is placed in them, but given the sheer number of websites and add the very limited number of combination of words how can you squeeze the keyword into it as to make include it?

Link is something new the print writer has to learn. This is more on the marketing side of the web page but, if you are a web writer, you must give this really learn this, as these links play a major role in the search engine optimization process.

Conclusion

Writing for the web is different than in print. On the plus side for the web writer is that there are lot of potential targets surfing the web. But, web writers have a lot to consider, you will have more limitations than writing in print. You will have to satisfy both the machine aspect (search engine spiders) and the human aspect (web-surfer). Web writers will have to think of some innovative ways to go around such limitations for them to truly excel in both ranking by the search engine and the people.

Top 4 Ways to Make Money on the Internet Using Your Blog

By Keith O

Making big money on the internet may seems like a dream in the past but not now anymore because there are really many ways to make you a successful online money maker. In fact, it is really hard to believe if you put in enough effort yet you can't make any money on the internet.

Below are top 4 ways I have explored through the internet for the past few months, carefully picked and understood them well in order for me to write out this precious article for you totally FREE. In the next few articles, I will elaborate more on how you can make money out from them individually.

1. Google AdSense

If you ever ask anyone what is the best money making program on the internet, the first response you will ever get is definitely Google AdSense. If you have a website or blog, simply put up Google ads on it and when your visitors click on them, you get paid a commission.

Tip: Choose the right niche, right keyword(s) and drive relevant traffic and each click on the ad will worth a lot of money as a result. Refer to my previous article "8 Golden And Most Effective AdSense Tips That Would Increase Your Earnings" to learn how to make more money with AdSense.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is nothing new in the online money making industry. It is a multi-billion business as most successful stories of people making tons of money on the internet comes from affiliate marketing. So how it does it work exactly? Well if you have a website or blog selling a product, simply direct your traffic to the their site with a referral link. When your visitors purchase something through your referral link, you will earn a percentage of commission out from the sale.

Tip: Drive lots of traffic to your website and participate in popular affiliate programs that pay well. Recommended affiliate programs are Commission Junction, Clickbank and Amazon.

3. Online Auctions

Making money through auctions is a slow yet profitable way to go if you have the knowledge and right skill to buy a product at low price yet sell it at a high price and benefit from the profit. Power seller in eBay have been making tens of thousands of dollars every month from online auctioning alone.

Tip: Learn and adopt the right skill to make a profitable sale. Do not give up easily as it may seem really tough for a start. Learn and improve yourself along the way.

4. Private Ad Sales

Private Ad Sales is a new way to monetize your website or blog and the profits can be huge. In fact, popular internet gurus like John Chow, has been making $11,730 alone from private ad sales with his blog in the month of September. In simple terms, how it works is to open up your website or blog directly for advertising. You make an income through advertising fees paid to you without going through any middleman. You may like to advertise your ads in this blog too.

Tip: Build a website or blog that offers value to your readers. Drive more traffic and build stronger page rank to it. In turn, this will make it more valuable for advertisers hence advertising fees will increase.

Some Tips For New Bloggers

By Hardik Vyas

Anyone can start a blog. The problem is, with so many people across the globe blogging regularly, why would anyone want to read what you write? Some people write for the pure pleasure of it, or because for them, a blog is the equivalent of a personal diary. And they are content with a small but dedicated readership of fans or followers. But if you are not a celebrity and writing for a global audience, it can be hard to retain your readers' interest considering the sheer volume of content that is available online. If you do a little research before beginning writing, you are likely to find that someone somewhere has already said what you want to. And at the same time, now that everyone can be published, a lot of poor quality writing is also doing the rounds online.

But there are things you can do to capture and retain the interest of your readers, improve the overall quality of your writing and ensure that your blog does not sink into the vast seas of repetitive, largely unread online content. Here are some basic guidelines to follow.

1. Define your topic

Decide what you want to write about and stick to it. This will give your writing a sense of direction and purpose. Most people will not be interested in the infinitesimally tiny details of your personal life, however interesting your own thoughts may seem to you. If you have multiple interests, create separate blogs to cover each of these, so you can avoid the verbal equivalent of trying to sell a sledgehammer to a watchmaker. Define your bounds from the start and stay strictly within them; also make them unambiguous and easily identifiable to readers.

2. Make sure you have your story straight

To do justice to your readers, you must be up-to-date with all the latest happenings in the field of your interest. When citing figures or quoting someone, don't just make an empty statement - be sure to credit the source. Your credibility as a consistent blogger can only be built through knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, and not merely through giving the appearance of knowledge and understanding. This can only happen through dedicated study and sustained interest in the subject. When expressing a personal opinion, explain clearly that it is your personal opinion. Other people may go on to quote you, so be fair to them. Make sure your theories really hold water, and that you are not wasting your readers' time by stating shaky opinions founded on inadequate research.

3. Get to the point

Your readers' time is precious. Don't waste it by giving them lengthy, useless introductions. Before you start writing, make sure you have a point, and focus on introducing it as early as you can. Each sentence should be used to focus and drive your central point. Remember, you have a very short span of time before your reader decides that he/she is uninterested in what you are saying and moves on to the next blog. Use that time as well as you can. State your case clearly and quickly and avoid the use of redundant, repetitive words. Steer clear of adjectives and long-winded descriptions - provide facts as far as possible, and let people judge for themselves. Avoid jargon and long words/sentences where simpler ones will suffice. This will let people relate to your writing with greater ease. Make each word count. Also, remember that people across the globe are going to be reading what you write; in terms of content and style, aim for global rather than local.

4. Be original

Give your readers the value they deserve. They don't need you to reiterate opinions held by masses of people across the world, or rewrite news items faithfully without diverting from the original content of the story. Look for what people will care about and mould your content to build their interest, but don't forget to add your own voice and personality to the content you publish.

5. Provide visual relief

Avoid large, intimidating, impossible-to-read blocks of text. Use subheads to break up your text, or insert pictures, graphs or quotes. Ensure that every element is informative, relevant and unambiguous in meaning.

6. Encourage dialogue

The concept of blogging revolves around people exchanging ideas. If you don't allow people to comment, you lose out on the ability to find out about the large variety of alternative opinions out there. Let people come back to you with what they think, and respond to them. Respect your readers' opinions even if you don't agree with them.

This will help you to grow and learn as a writer and person.

7. Stick to a schedule

Figure out how much time you can invest in blogging each week/month. Try to post as frequently as you can, but stay realistic when setting expectations. Don't overcommit and then disappear for weeks at a time. Apologise to your readers each time you come back after an absence.

8. Spellcheck!

Everyone is prone to the occasional embarrassing typo, and unless you are in the habit of reading your text over several times before you publish, it's nearly unavoidable. Running a spellcheck before you publish can save you a lot of trouble later.

Happy posting!

Nine SEO Mistakes Most Bloggers Make

By Brayan Peter

1. Permitting Title Tags to be Auto Generated (from the post title, category name, etc.):

Every category page and most permalink pages (i.e. post pages) ought to be hand-crafted. Don't just let the blog software reuse the post title or category name with your blog's name tacked on in the front. Why? Because an idyllic post title is hardly ever have an ideal title tag. Optimizing your post title or category name by working in synonyms, multiple verb tenses, etc. into it can mess up its punchiness and thus its reader impact.

How would you achieve this? If your blog is powered by WordPress, then you can use my WordPress plug-in called SEO Title Tag. It even offers a "mass edit" managerial interface for making immense edits across dozens or hundreds of pages at once. I am not aware of a alike plug-in for Movable Type or other blog platforms, but possibly this article will spur someone on to write it.

If you don't have the time or resources and wish to carry on with auto-generated title tags, you ought to, at an absolute minimum hand code the title tag on the home page, and then on the rest of the blog place the blog name at the end of the title tag rather than at the start (or remove it altogether). This will give you more exclusively focused title tags.

2. Letting Pages Get Indexed That Should Never Be Indexed:

Some pages shouldn't be permissible into the search indices because they are either fundamentally content-less (like the "Email this page" form or "Enlarged photo" pages) or because they are substantively alike to other pages (like the "Printer-friendly" pages). Scrutinize your indexed pages in Google using the site: inquiry operator and look for which pages don't deserve to be there. Then forbid them in your robots.txt file.

3. Having Several Homes For Your Blog:

Does your blog have what search engine geeks refer to as "canonicalization" issue? If you can get to a page by manifold URLs, then the answer is "Yes." For instance, ries.typepad.com and originofbrands.com all guide to the same page.

4. Not Using Optional Experts to Minimize Duplicate Content:

This may be well-known by other names in other blog platforms, but in WordPress the optional extract on the Write Post form is where you can define alternate copy to exhibit everywhere but on the permalink page. That will make the content of the post distinctive to the permalink page, reducing the potential that you'll lose rankings for duplicate content because the post would otherwise be included in its entirety on several pages, including archives-by-date pages and category pages.

5. Not using rel=nofollow to strategically direct the flow of link gain:

Some internal links aren't very obliging because they have suboptimal anchor text (e.g. "Permalink" and "Comments"). Some external links just leak link put on to nobody's benefit, such as "Digg this" links.

6. Over-reliance on date-based archives:

Most blog's systematize their archives by month rather than by keyword. That's a shame because the anchor text of links is so imperative to SEO, yet these date-based archives tend to have terrible number-based anchor text. Systemizing your blog into categories is a step in the right direction, but implementing tagging and tag clouds across your blog is a much more search engine most favorable approach. Then you can ditch your date-based hierarchy, or at least rel=nofollow all those date-based archive links.

7. Using suboptimal anchor text when linking internally:

It's not unusual for Bloggers to make use of "here" or "previously" or alike suboptimal phrases as anchor text within post copy. Defy the temptation and use relevant keywords instead.

8. Putting your blog's URL or your RSS feed's URL on a domain you don't own:

Does your blog's URL have blogspot.com, typepad.com, wordpress.com, etc.? If so, please replicate after me in a Homer Simpson voice: "Doh!" This is a adversity waiting to happen. What happens if you want to move to another blog platform or service provider? You won't be able to 301 redirect. The finest thing you can do is put up a "We've moved" post then discard the blog.

Another mistake is using Feed burner devoid of using their MyBrand service - which means that all your RSS subscribers are subscribing to a URL you don't control. You'd be in a pickle if you ever wanted to change from Feedburner to another service. After Google attained Feedburner, they made the MyBrand service free. So there's no justification for not using it. I use MyBrand with my blog, so my feed URL is feeds.stephanspencer.com/scatterings instead of feeds.feedburner.com/scatterings.

9. Offering suboptimal pod casts:

If you are publishing podcasts on your blog, be certain to optimize the ID3 tag, include show notes with each podcast, and create show transcripts (hint: CastingWords offers inexpensive podcast transcription), and make sure you have a presence in podcast directories like iTunes.

In the very first phrase of blogging, it is really important to identify the type of readers you are targeting on your blog. Here's some key questions to ask yourself to help you out.

1. What type of readers comes to your blog?

2. Are the readers reading your blog willing to come out money?

3. What types of topics does your reader love to read about?

Once you have answered those three questions and have your answer you will have a clearer picture of your audience that you are writing to.

You May Ask Why Is It Important To Know Who Your Audience Are?

Well, here's my believe and I think it will work well for everyone in any blog. Once you understood who are readers are and where they come from. You will be able to connect to them much better and the chances that they will buy something would also be higher too. Which in the end means more CASH.
