5 Things I Hate About Bloggers!

By Thomas Sinfield

Wow! I can already feel the glaring eyes of all my readers, but give me a chance to justify myself! I have been blogging for over a year now and reading blogs for even longer that that. In this time it has given me a great chance to watch how bloggers act, react and interact, and there are a few things that I have noticed that are common among most bloggers - that may not necessarily be good.

Here are 5 attributes that most bloggers have that annoys me!

1. They Think They Deserve To Be Popular

Now don't get me wrong. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard - that's freedom of speech. But to think that you can just rock up, create a blog and the next day be getting 1,000's of visitors is something that seems to be becoming all to common among new bloggers. They see the likes of Chow, Cow and Co and expect to get straight to their level, as they never saw the hard work that was put on by these 'pro bloggers' to get to where they are. To be successful at blogging you have to put in the hard work with quality posts and being active in your niche! AND YOU NEED TO BE CONSISTENT! Blogging success doesn't come over night, but it will if you stick around long enough!

2. They Can't Handle Criticism

How many times have you seen a blogger lash out at one of the comments on their blog? Does anyone else get the feeling that a lot of bloggers cannot take constructive criticism? Now I'm not talking about personal attacks. I'm referring to people leaving comments that are their own opinions which just happen to be the opposite of those held by the blog author. Why is it so hard for us to understand that not everyone is going to agree with us? That is the beauty of such a diverse world! How boring would life be if everyone agreed about everything?

3. They Are Followers

I'm not saying don't change when you realise your blog is heading in the wrong direction. But I see a lot of bloggers totally changing who they are and how they blog just because a 'pro blogger' is doing or saying something. I would like to think that as bloggers we are the ones setting the pace, we are being creative and unique. Why are we so busy following the latest trend to make use of our freedom of speech. I remember when pretty much everyone would make a post about how much John Chow was earning the day after he released his monthly earnings. Now I know that it is a great encouragement to find out that this money is able to be made blogging, but does everyone need to stop writing quality posts to blog about how much someone is making? Be your own person. Blog about what you're thinking. Take new territory! That is what blogging should be. Leave the rehashing for ezinearticles!

4. They Don't Harness The Power Of Networking

Blogging is the perfect arena to really profit from networking. Why is it that so many bloggers don't take ahold of the opportunity? In blogging their are so many ways for us to network and

build our blogs together. To use each other as steps to building both each others blogs. We can:

* Comment on other blogs

* Link To Each Other In Our Posts

* Use Social Bookmarking Tools

* MSN

* Help Other Bloggers Out With Problems

* Suggest Ways For Each Other To Improve

Think how much more successful all our blogs would be if we truly caught a hold of the power of networking?

5. They Give Up To Easily

I was looking at Marks Top100 Bloggers list the other day and sure the top couple are still the same, but it seems like a whole heap have just disappeared and a new flood have come through. What happened to all the ones that left? I find that a lot of bloggers get flustered when they find out that blogging isn't as easy as it seems. When they are posting everyday, commenting too.

It could be cause it all gets too much. It could be they run out of ideas. Maybe they don't see the value since the money isn't rolling in. Either way a lot of bloggers quit right before it seems like their blog is about to explode.

10 Places to Find New Readers For Your Blog

By Thomas Sinfield

Everyone is looking for new readers for their blog! I don't care if you're getting 1 million unique visitors a day, you are still looking for ways increase your reach across the internet! So I am going to take a quick look at 10 easy ways that you can find new readers for your blog.

1. Comment Your Commenters

Usually when a blogger comments on your post it is because it is of relevance to them and their blog. So why not stop on over at their blog also, return the favour and see if you can grab some of their readers. If you are in a similar niche, chances are you will gain quite a few new readers from this method!

2. Step Outside Your Niche

I have found the goldmine for getting new readers for my blog was to step outside of my niche when commenting on blogs. Sure a lot of my readers are 'MMO' or 'blog about blogging' bloggers, but I also have a lot of general bloggers, mum bloggers and dad bloggers, who may not be as focused on making money but want to learn how to improve their blogging.

What I did to find these blogs was to do A LOT of blog hopping, where I'd visit the commenter of one blog, then the commenter of that blog etc etc, and this chain would lead me to niche blogs that I would not normally visit! Become active outside of your niche!

3. Forums

Forums are another tool for getting new readers I absolutely love! That is because it really does work. For me one blog alone is usually one of my highest referrers each month - and I am not even as active their as I used to be.

For me, being in the internet marketing/MMO/ blog about blogging niche, I focus on webmaster forums. The pick for me is Digital Point because the community is massive and they have a link to you latest blog post from each post you make on the forum! Another growing blog in my niche is BlogPremiere which also provides me with a nice amount of new traffic!

4. Google

Search engines are great ways to increase your traffic because although it takes a while to happen, when it does, it is a constant flow that continues to work for you - even when you're sleeping!

The keys to generating search engine traffic from your blog posts is:

* Optimise Your Posts For Keywords

* Put Your Keywords In Titles

* Talk About What Is Popular

* Use Keyword Tools Like Micro Niche Finder

5. Social Bookmarking

I must say this is something I tried to work out, but still havn't. However saying that, I know a lot of bloggers that have had massive (and I mean massive) influxes of traffic from social bookmarking websites like DIGG and Stumble.

If anyone has a post where they explain how to be successful in Social Bookmarking, feel free to link to it in a comment below!

6. Guest Blogging

If you are looking to expand out of just commenting on blogs and want to show readers your quality of posting before they visit your blog, then guest posting is for you. There are a lot of bloggers that would love for you to make a guest post on their blog. In fact I probably get at least one email a week asking if I will do a guest post.

A lot of bloggers are busy and would love a hand to lighten the posting load. This is your opportunity to show other bloggers readers why they need to be reading your blog also. One thing thought, do not right about you and your blog. Provide quality content that will benefit your host blog as well.

A few blogs I have guest posted on are:

* Tyler Cruz

* Carl Ocab

* Ian Fernando

* MixedMarketArts

* RetireAt21

7. Hold A Contest

This has to be one of the most popular ways for bloggers to quickly increase their readers and thast because it works! I have run as well as been apart of my fair shar of competitions and each time I have seen a nice increase in my traffic stats, comments per post, and rss feed count.

There are a lot of differnt types of contests so here are a few to get to you thinking:

* Self Hosted Contest

This is where the contest is for your blog only, and you offer prizes for things like:

o Random Email Subsribers (To boost feed count)

o Random Commenters (Boost traffic and comment counts)

o Challenge/Word Game (To get readers coming back)

* Multiple Blogger Contests

This is where you are competing against other bloggers for a prize yourself, and usually involves you providing incentives and contests for your visitors. A couple of examples of this are:

o The famous 'John Chow vs Shoemoney' contest

o Tyler Cruz vs Winning The Web

o Daily Blog Tips 'Blogging Idol'

8. Give Away Something

Giving something to your readers has to be one of the best ways of keeping them. I am sure you have seen all the blogs giving away a free product (usually an ebook) to every reader who subscribers to their blog.

The reason they do this is because people love getting things for free and if the ebook is something that interests them then they will quickly give up their email address to get it! And most bloggers know that people are usually way to lazy to take the time to unsubscribe to things!

9. Submit Posts To Article Directories

This is something I have been doing on and off since I started with internet marketing and bloggging about 18 months ago. All I can say is it works! I haev had one article have over 12,000 views and a couple more each with a few thousand view each. This is a great way to get free traffic for about 2 mintues work. I usually just submit to EzineArticles, but there are 100's of other article directories if you want to spend the time to submit.

10. Entrecard

Now I wouldn't say that Entrecard is the best source of traffic, but any traffic is good traffic right? Now you could just go search for lists of blogs with the entrecard widget to drop, but why not be a bit more efficient and look for lists of blogs that promise to return the favour?

MySpace Music - Widgets and Players to Rock Your Content

By Scott Rodgers

You've tried to customize your MySpace. You've looked at layout, colors, and worked hard to write good content to keep your friends and visitors interested. Do you still feel like your MySpace page is missing something? If so or you just want to give your unique look and unique sound, you should try adding a music player or widget to your MySpace page!

You have quite a few options if you'd like to do this and more than a few of them are not ideal. You definitely want the option that will give you the best look and the best sound. You don't want to compromise your existing aesthetics for the music widget. So, what are the best widgets?

You can try the Google Audio Widget, which is small and bare bones, but you can only get mp3s via links to sites. So, if you can't find the mp3 you want in link form somewhere, you won't be able to play it on your page; there's no way to upload. You could also try last.fm, which is popular and so a bit trite. It isn't as simple to get up and running as some other choices.

For some additional functionality, you can try the mp3 player widget at WidgetBox, which has a variety of music widgets. It also requires that you link to an existing URL with an mp3 file, but it also allows you to choose the color of the widget. This way, you can match it to your MySpace layout and color.

If you want to have the ability to upload any mp3 to a widget, you should use Muzicons. Muzicons let's you very easily upload your mp3s and embed them on your blog in a tiny player. You can even choose individual songs for each entry or parts of your page rather than have a single site-wide player! It's the easiest of all the widgets to get working and provides endless options, so it can match the look and layout of your site.

Try each of these options and see which one suits you and your MySpace best. Definitely try to embed a widget that can be customized to your look, however, since you don't want the widget to seem out of place. Also aim to have flexibility in what songs you can upload or use, so that your repeat visitors don't get tired of the same old music.

You may be able to work with some of the ones I mentioned that have more limited options, but I recommend you try Muzicons first and I think it will meet all your needs and more.

Blog Widgets - Add Uniqueness, Go Viral

By Scott Rodgers

Do you want your blog to look like all other blogs? Of course you don't! Trite, hackneyed blogs don't get the attention; blogs that take the extra step and make themselves unique are the ones that survive. Whether a personal blog or a niche blog, you want to it shine for your visitors.

How can you make your blog special? You can use a combination of widgets and tools to keep it interesting. Let's take a look at some great options. Commentt.com is a site that provides a tool that lets you embed a widget into the comments section of your blog. It allows you to receive video comments, which are much more interesting than regular comments. People love to watch something related to what they just read, so this can help your posts go viral!

Zannel has released a widget that follows in the steps of twitter. It let's you embed a multimedia widget on your blog, letting you update your blog with short messages, uploaded pictures, or emailed messaged. If you're busy and need to update your blog from a cell phone, this is definitely the way to go.

You could also try WidgetBucks, which isn't so much for your visitors, but for you. It let's you earn money, which, if you go viral from other additions to your blog, could be very substantial.

Will your visitors care that your earning money off their interest in your blog? Not when you have them listening to a nice tune! Last on the list, and perhaps the most unique, is Muzicons. Muzicons combine emoticons and music that can you add individually to any blog post! You can upload any mp3, choose an emoticon, color, and you're set. It's the easiest to add and arguably gives the best return in terms of individuality and uniqueness. You can custom tailor a muzicon to a particular post, which is great.

Give these widgets a try. I guarantee they'll add something to your blog and you won't regret it. Above all, I recommend you try Muzicons.

Blog Music - Widgets and Players to Make Your Blog Sing

By Scott Rodgers

Putting music on your blog, MySpace, or LiveJournal can be a great way to personalize it and add atmosphere. When done right, it can also add something extra to your blog, making it unique. It used to be that you had to embed a single file on your page, forcing your readers to listen to just one song, without a choice to stop it. Thankfully, technology has surpassed that point and there are now a range of options available for your blog or social network site.

There are music players for your blog that allow your reader to select from songs and choose to pause or play them. This is not only good for variety, but it is necessary to give your visitor the chance to forego the music. Forcing them to listen can be irritating to visitors, discouraging them from staying on your site or returning.

In this realm, there are a number of options. You can try Easylistener web music player, which allows you to form a playlist. It isn't hard to set up and it'll allow you play music from the web that has mp3 links. You could also try some of the radio player widgets. Last.fm is a popular choice and has a thriving community. You could also try finetune, MOG, Sonific, or RGB. These widgets allow you to add a player to your page, offering your visitors the choice of music.

However, the best of the music widgets seems to be Muzicons. It's a relatively new widget, but it really delivers on functionality. It's the easiest of all the widgets to set up and use; you only need to upload an mp3 and choose a couple settings like color to personalize it. It combines a music player with unique emoticons, letting you set the mood. The absolute best feature is that it's small and compact and therefore, you can attach a new muzicon to each of your blog posts! This definitely lets you target music to particular posts and in general, lets you mesh music with your blog better than any of the alternatives.

Look into each alternative and try them out and see what fits you and your blog best. If you are looking for a flexible music widget that requires no expertise to use, definitely take a look at Muzicons.

4 Simple Steps to Get Your Blog Going

By Megan Marshall

Blogging is an easy, inexpensive way for Network Marketers to brand themselves. It allows you to show your expertise by providing high-quality content that will attract readers. If you don't already have a blog, follow these simple steps to create one, and start writing!

1. Register your domain name. What do you want your website's address to be? Think of some names and check to see if they are available. Then pay the small fee to register your domain name.

2. Choose a webhost. You will need to host your blog somewhere. Although you can sign up for a blog that is hosted for you (through wordpress.com, blogger, and others), I recommend hosting it yourself. It looks more professional, and you have complete control over all aspects of it. You will want to find a hosting provider that offers easy installation of your blogging software.

Once you have signed up for a hosting account, you will neeed to point your domain to it by changing the DNS. If you're not sure how to do this, customer service for the hosting company should be able to help you (another reason to choose a good hosting provider).

3. Install WordPress. There are other blogging programs you can use, but WordPress is one of the best--and it's free! Many big name companies use WordPress to host their blogs. It's easily customizable and very user-friendly.

Like I said before, choose a webhost that offers easy installation of WordPress using Fantastico. Just follow the instructions, and you'll be good to go.

4. Start writing! Once you've got WordPress installed, you can start writing. Eventually you will want to play around with the look of your blog, but don't forget that the content is the most important thing. Good content will attract readers and help you brand yourself.

Happy blogging!

Giving the Readers a Say

By Mark A. Abrahams

Giving people a say is a great way to get them involved and help them make purchasing decisions. In the past several years, many businesses have discovered that because there are so many choices and competition in the market they need some leverage. Information is a great way to develop this leverage, because it is providing the visitor with information. Allowing the visitors, readers or customers to participate, interact and even help design content on a website is one of the best ways to develop a good customer base, who, will keep coming back.

Blogging is an excellent medium to establish a link or form of communication between visitors and the company themselves. Having a representative or professional writer maintain the blog can help a daily interaction between those individuals looking for products or services and those that are informed about those products. Since information sells, blogging can help companies provide information, along with a hint of sales in them, while helping the customer better understand the merchandise or service that they are receiving.

Posting information through a blog can also help ease prospective customers' minds by explaining the business practices of the company. Information such as return policies, sales, updates and guarantees are great things to include on a blog. Not only does this provide needed information for the customer it also keeps a wealth of content on the site. Having a writer work in keywords or popular phrases in the content can also increase traffic to the site. In fact most bloggers use their blog to help drive traffic, generate revenue or increase their online visibility.

Bloggers Paradise

By Mark A. Abrahams

Blogging is a journal that can be shared with friends, acquaintances or business prospects. Some think that blogging can and only should be used to share personal information or events in a person's life, but there are many other options and uses for blogging. In fact some of the biggest companies have moved toward providing information and updates through a blogging type system. It is simply an easy and very effective means by which to keep others informed. It can also put a little light or humor for the day to break up information for the reader.

Blogging can be completed on a website or as a stand alone informational portal. There are many companies that offer hosting for blogs whether they are personal or business related. Any type of information can be shared to help fulfill the goals of the blogger. It may be sharing information about a new product, service or upcoming events for a business. Some businesses have gone so far as to provide information for their customers through their blog. This actually can save time and effort for companies because some of the most common concerns or questions can be answered through the blogging process.

Article marketing is very effective through blogging as well. Informational articles can be posted through the blog, therefore putting fresh content on the site. This can help draw traffic to the blog, therefore showing them the products or services offered by the company. Blogger - Logger - Whatever You Call It

By Mark A. Abrahams

No matter what you call it blogging is a good method of getting information out to those that need it. Whether your readers are nosy about the success or dealings of the company or genuinely interested in the products and services, you are still giving them something that they want. That is the entire key to blogging, giving the reader what they want! It doesn't matter what type of business or really the content of the blog, because it is an added effort to keep customers and show them that your company is willing to go the extra mile to keep them informed.

Blogging is an inexpensive way to keep current information on a website. With the development of new products, ever changing business or updated services, it keeps readers informed. Some business owners go so far as to post customer service information or other helpful tidbits about their services. This can be extremely helpful to the customers because they are not required to look for the information, it is right there in the blog. It is also a good idea to have the blog set up in a manner where individuals can subscribe so that they get an email every time the blog is updated. This is a constant reminder of the site and blog, without them having to look to see if there is anything new on the site.

Blogs are designed in a manner that is easy to use for the reader as well. While there are many different themes, colors and layouts the general theme is all the same. This allows the blog owner to put their own creative touches!

Blog Traffic Tips - How to Build Your Blog Traffic and Increase Your Profits From the Start

By Jamie Holt

In the early days of a blog, as you begin to build the content rich pages and are expanding the value of what is present on your blog, it can be extremely difficult to get organic traffic and that is if you can get any at all. Not only will it take you time for the search engines to recognise you as an authority on your chosen topic, but you also have to rely on your choice of topic, keywords and the style in which you write. If people don't find you, how on earth are you supposed to get traffic to your blog? I will tell you how.

By increasing your market reach with other methods that lead visitors back to your blog, here you will find a few of my skills that I put into use when starting a fresh blog in a new niche:

1. Social Bookmarking

This is one that you cannot overlook in the early days of your blog, bookmarking your blog at the social sites gets you deep into the public eye and puts your blog in the spotlight of the people who may have an interest in what you have to say. The bookmarking sites like socialmarker are popular right now and increase in popularity each and every day, so take the time to register and give your blog some exposure to the market.

2. Article Marketing

This may seem like a bit of a contradiction to your blogging goal, but when just starting a fresh blog it can pay off for you in droves if you drive some traffic with the power of the article directory. Keyword focused articles can bring in floods of traffic very quickly and if you keep in mind that your aim is to showcase your blog you will find that article marketing can be very effective in getting your blog traffic off to a great start.

3. Video Marketing

I have always been a fan of blogging because it is much more personal than regular very sterile websites, so adding into the mix the power house that is video marketing really helps to build your brand whilst driving traffic. As I said, blogging is a much more personal method of promotion, so to have your face in videos too can only help you business by giving your traffic something to remember you by before they get to your blog. These are just 3 blog traffic tips to get you started. there are hundreds of methods of traffic generation for your blog and they can all work together, you do not have to only do one and you certainly do not have to leave any out of the mix. the more the better that's what I say.

Copywriting - How to Write Readable Copy

By Gary R. Hess

Copywriting is perhaps the most important feature a blog holds. It is both the easiest way to turn would-be subscribers into a bounce-rate amplifier and the easiest way to turn that same would-be subcriber into a lifelong reader.

So what is important for copywriting?

  • Font-size. The font-size should always be set in either ems or percents, never pixels. A large portion of internet visitors don't use modern browsers that can increase or decrease pixels. However, when using ems or percents even ancient browsers have the increase/decrease ability.

  • Content blocks. All content should easily be read within an 1024x768 screen resolution. If not, visitors will quickly leave seeking a site they can easily read without scrolling left to right.

  • Line-Height. The minimum line-height content areas should be 130%. Increasing the line-height of the content area increases readability and scanability. As a general rule, I use at least a 1.5ems on every website I master.

  • Background/text contrast. The background and text contrast is a no-brainer. Without perfect vision it is hard to read yellow-on-white or white-on-grey. Stick with either black-on-white or dark-grey-on-white in main content areas for maximum readability.

  • Grammar/punctuation/spelling. This cannot be stressed enough. Although perfect grammar is hard to come by, it is important to do your research. It should be noted, having at least the common rules down is quite important. You do not want to read a 350 word post without at least two paragraphs and neither do your visitors. As for spelling, use a spell-checker. Also, get associated with the differences between affect/effect, your/you're, and their/there/they're.

  • Lists and breaks.When creating lists or breaking articles into sections, it is essential to use correct formating. Lists are best served using the unordered list or ordered list tag in HTML and sections should be broken by header tags (h2, h3). This will not only help your readers, but will also help your search engine rankings.

  • Emphasizing words.When emphasizing a word or making a word stand out, use the em or strong tag--they are seen as eye-stoppers. Generally speaking, internet users scan read. By using the em or strong tag, visitor's eyes are forced to stop and read the sentence. This is best served when making an important point of discussion.

The most important rule, though, is be yourself. Do not try to write about something you do not know or have interest in. If something interests you and you are willing to learn, great. Otherwise you are doomed to fail.

Copywriting is something that doesn't come naturally in most people; however, with a little practice you will be able to pass for someone with respectable copy and gain readers and sales in the process.

Getting Paid to Blog - Making the Most of Your Blog

By Corey R Geer

The chances are, that if you already own a blog, then you already are familiar or participate in making money online. The majority of people start blogs only for this reason and then there are the few that blog because they actually enjoy writing down their thoughts. However, if you're not getting paid to blog, then chances are you're not putting your blog to good use and making the most of it.

If you're an existing internet marketer or someone who's currently looking into making money online, then you know exactly how tough it is to accomplish this. It seems that no one wants to help now a days and everyone is only looking out for themselves. The majority of people who even attempt to make money online will fail and they will call it quits because they either find out how much work is involved, or they just don't have the proper knowledge to succeed.

One of the greatest ways to make money on the internet is by the use of owning your own blog. Unlike a website which rarely updates or changes, a blog usually keeps readers informed and has more returning visitors, which makes this a huge opportunity for bloggers. There are a ton of ways to make money off of a blog, but there are people who are paid to blog. Some companies or product owners will pay you to write a review of their product, website or sometimes even there own blog.

How much can you earn? This is based on so many different things. Your blogs page rank is taken into consideration, how long it has been alive, it's Alex traffic rank, how many visitors are visiting your blog on a daily basis, your writing skills, and sometimes even the length of the post is taken into consideration for payment. You can either be paid upfront or through a percent of the commission made off of your post.

If you're looking to make money for your own benefit, then you can do some affiliate marketing on your blog instead of being paid to review other people's stuff. Remember, don't just try to sell things on your blog, because a blog is supposed to be informative. If people wanted to just buy things, they would go to a store. People don't need a reason to buy things at a store, they're there for that specific reason, but when you're selling something on a website, you've got to give them a reason.

Without your readers, your blog is just another blog on the internet.

Blog Tips - 8 Ways to Get People to Read Your Content

By Amy Nutt

The reason we all write blogs and content for our websites is because we have something that we feel is important to say, and we want to get that message out to the public and to our potential consumers. Unfortunately, as my boss has pointed out in one of his posts that only 16% of people actually read blog posts and the rest of us simply scan them for pertinent information. I have to be honest, as a reader and a writer I found this to be a shocking number and had a bit of a hard time accepting it. But, as Jeff explained to me, most of us are thrown so much information in one day that we simply don't have enough time to read it all.

I think that's only part of the reason though. Truthfully? There are a lot of badly written, boring posts and articles floating around on the web and most of us can't be bothered to read them to get the information we need out of it. But, the good news is that I do believe if something is truly well written or entertaining that people will read it. Therefore, in order to get our message across, we have to make our writing more appealing to our readership. Fortunately, these few simple copywriting tips can be used to help you tighten your writing and reach further than that 16 percent.

1.) Plan Ahead

Listen, if you don't know where you're going with your writing, than your readers don't stand a chance. Before you sit down and put fingers to keyboard, think about what you want to say and what the logical flow of your thoughts should be. Your writing should be orderly and have direction. If you're looking for a great starting place, try this simple adage: Tell people what you're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you've told them. It'll help lend focus to your thoughts.

2.) Know your Audience

It seems like common sense, but you'd be surprised. For example, if you know that your travel site appeals to young urban professionals, writing a blog post about retirement travel is probably not going to go over well. Think about your idea and spin it: Maybe your blog post could be about where to send your retired parents on vacation. Find a way to make your new product or service appeal to your existing audience.

3.) The K.I.S.S. Principle

In other words - Keep it Simple Stupid (Hey, don't blame me, I didn't invent the acronym). Did you know that most newspapers write their stories for a grade seven education level? Writing for the web shouldn't be any different. And, while it's great that you have a PhD in entomology, but if your readers don't know you're talking about bugs, you aren't going to get your points across.

4.) N.M.A.P. (No more acronyms please)

Given the previous entry, this one is a little ironic. But here's the thing. Just because you know what you're talking about when you mention a BOGOFF (Buy One Get One For Free) or E&OE (Errors & Omissions Excepted); doesn't mean that the people reading your blog do. Explain what your acronyms mean before you lose all your readers with your technical talk.

5.) Mix it up!

Sometimes copy can feel really stale and boring, but you can't quite figure out why. It's often due to the overuse of certain words in your copy, so take a look over what you've written. If you see that every sentence starts with the word 'the' then you need to make a change. This also applies to words in a paragraph, if you've described something as 'good' four times in the past three sentences it's time to pick a new adjective.

6.) Use Awesome Words Sparingly

Being overly descriptive with your writing is not necessarily a good thing. If you were writing a novel, sure, there might be room for more flowery turns of phrase. Web copy though, should be more simple and direct. Don't over illustrate what you're trying to say, just say it, otherwise you'll lose your readers.

7.) Text Not

It doesn't matter how busy you are; text speak does not belong in proper copy. Take the time to write out each of the words you want to say, otherwise you'll turn off your readers. Because, not only is text speak annoying, it can also be hard to understand, so resist the urge, kwim? (Oops!)

8.) Slash

Once you've finished writing your blog or article, save and close the file and walk away from it. After you've taken a little bit of time (20 - 30 minutes) come back to it and start editing. Your fresh eyes will help you be able to see the mistakes and the unnecessary parts more easily. And remember, if you think you've gotten a bit too wordy or it runs a little too long, than it probably has.

We write content for our search engine optimization websites or blogs because we want people to read it, but appealing to readers in the information age is easier said than done. Writing should be tight, direct and interesting to your readers. Following the above copywriting guidelines should get you on your way to improving your copy.
