Ms. Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of kraft foods, is Forbes top 5th woman entrepreneur, 2007.
I was inspired by her "six rules of road" and found them practically applicable to us, netpreneurs.
Six Rules Of The Road:
-Get the right people on the bus,
-Engage their hearts and minds,
-Give them a road map,
-Model the behavior you expect,
-Communicate, communicate, and communicate,
-Celebrate success publicly and often.
Get the right people on bus: We all strive for traffic to our blogs. Unless you are aiming at income from cost per impression ads, what you need is quality traffic. The traffic which builds a loyal following and the traffic which converts. Network in the right area. If you are helping people plan for their retirement, what is the use of networking where teens are prevalent.
Engage their hearts and minds: Write informative posts. Use short sentences, catchy phrases, a touch of humor would bring in the right mixture to keep your visitors glued to your blog. Interlink your posts to allow people to read on and on. On an average blog visitors read 1.7 blogs. So make sure you catch them there. You have to inculcate this habit from the 1st post on your blog. Quality information is key.
Give them a road map: People are looking for info on the net. Show them how to do, what they want to do. Entice them with your expertise on the subject. They will be too pleased to come back for more and whom to turn to when they get stuck.
Model the behavior you expect: This one tip is probably the most important. I know of a good example. Johnathan Leger. Prior to his book "$7 secrets", e-books were sold over $40. His 7$ secrets is kind of viral marketing. He sold his book for $7 and offered 100% commission to his affiliates. He became IM guru overnight. He was practically implementing his theory and showing people how successful it can be.
Communicate, communicate, communicate: Stay in touch with your group. Once you built a mail list show them they haven't done a mistake. They are going to get quality info each time you communicate with them. This will keep them looking forward to your mail rather than clicking spam button. Use different techniques instead of just one. Like e-zines, webinars, forums etc. But don't overdo it, especially when you have no quality info to offer.
Celebrate success publicly and often: Isn't that a great way to show you respect your visitor's loyalty. Celebrate your blog's anniversary or New Year by giving a little gift. You could give a report away, hold a free seminar, a discount or something that is useful for them.
Ms Irene Rosenfeld received total compensation valued at $11.6 Million in 2007. Let's try following her six rules of road and see how far we can get.
