Your Blog Post - 7 Steps to Attract Readers

By Sonali Sengupta

Getting people to read your blog posts is a problem that troubles several bloggers. Not only the new bloggers, even some veterans find their readership dwindling as time flies by. This step-by-step guide may help you figure out what to do in order to get a loyal readership for your blog:

  • Take your time: It's important to figure out the "why", "what" and "how" of your blog post. Ask yourself what you want to write about, why is that subject your choice and finally, how that post is going to help your readers. Once you figure out these answers, proceed with your write-up.

  • Use an attractive title: The title of your blog post should entice the reader to dig deeper. At the same time, it should also offer a hint of what the post is all about. As web surfers don't have much time on their hands, they won't spend too much time reading your title. So, unless it is short and crisp, it will fail to grab the attention of your targeted readers.

  • Reasonable length: Don't make your blog post too short or too long.A long post will drive your readers away as people now a days have lower attention span and won't read a write up that refuses to end. Even a short post will annoy readers who may feel that you have not taken the care to develop your write up properly. So, take a middle path and keep your blog post of a moderate length.

  • Keep it error free: Check and re-check you post before hitting the publish button. Typos, spelling errors or poor grammar acts as a great deterrent for increasing your readership.

  • Pick a subject of your choice: The subject of your blog post should be something that you are knowledgeable about. Even if that subject has been written about the umpteenth time, try to bring a fresh perspective to it by sharing your own experiences. You can also offer your own suggestions and inputs to make the write up interesting and useful to the readers.

  • Be regular: Determine you own schedule and stick to it. You can write seven blog posts a week or one post every week. However, decide what suits you the best and then stick to that particular schedule.

  • Start networking: Try to find other bloggers who are writing about related things. Visit their blogs and post comments, thereby making your presence felt in that community and encouraging others to visit your blog. You can also try to find blogs that discuss something you are interested about. You may post comments that add some value to the discussions going there. This will help some people to visit your blog by clicking the link that is generated when you put your comments on other blogs.

Though there are several other ways to bring traffic to your blog, try these few ones in the primary stages. These steps will surely help you have a significant increase in your blog readership.
