Keeping Track of Blog Stats

By John Motson

In order to professionally run a blog for business or profit you need to be aware of all facets of your day to day blog running.

An important facet of your day to day blogging are your blog statistics. It is imperative that you are constantly aware of your statistics and are making an effort to tweak and adjust various blog segments in order to optimize and maximize your blog traffic.

I like to look at my blog stats from time to time not only to satisfy a basic curiosity but also so I can better determine the type of traffic my blog receives and the parts of my blog I need to improve in order to get more traffic!

I use a tool provided by Google called Google Analytics which allows me to combine the power of WordPress with the detail the Google Analytics stats system provides. Personally though, I don't think that's enough stats for me so on top of that, I also use the WordPress.com Stats plugin because the WordPress.com Stats plugin lets me view my stats in real time while updates of Google Analytics stats lag behind a bit.

I find it hard to wait for my Google Analytics stats - even though they provide a lot of detail - so I turn to the trusty Wordpress.com stats plugin as a source of extra information.

By the way, stats analysis can be a fun thing to do, but be careful not to overdo it. Some bloggers get addicted to checking their stats every five minutes and never get any work done.
