You've created a blog that you are proud of and now you want to add in some monetization features into it, but you are not sure whether you should use AdSense or Affiliate Programs. Well if your plan is to make more money from your blog then why not add both?
There is no doubt that you will probably make more money in the long run from promoting affiliate products because they usually have a high commission rate (depending on whether you choose real products or downloadable products) and so obviously the bulk of your blog should be dedicated to recommending these products. But there are some visitors that were probably never going to buy anything anyway so instead of them just leaving it makes sense to at least try and earn a few cents off them as they go.
So how is the best way to set up a blog with both AdSense and Affiliate recommendations?
Obviously you would want the item that makes you the most money (affiliate programs) to be the most clearly obvious choice on the page. It's always a good idea to see if the product you are recommending comes with pictures or banners, as images draw the eye much more than text links.
Your prime real estate for your blog is the top and left of the page so that is where you want to concentrate your efforts most for the affiliate offers. Try adding a banner at the top of the page and a picture of the item you are promoting in the left hand column.
That leaves using the right or bottom for placing your AdSense ads. That means after someone has finished reading, if they are not interested in finding more about the product you recommend they can click away on one of the ads at the bottom of the page and you won't have made nothing.
