Grow Your Business - Start a Blog

By Neil Baillie

Does your business have a blog? If the answer to that question is no, then you are leaving money on the table.

Blogging has become one of the most valuable tools that a business can employ. Corporate blogs are increasing all the time and business owners are realising what a great marketing tool it is.

All businesses need customers and happy customers at that. A blog can provide an invaluable platform for your customers to provide feedback. Wouldn't you want to know if they enjoyed your product, your customer service, the buying experience? Wouldn't you want to know if there was anything that they didn't like? Wouldn't you want to know if there was anything that they felt could be improved?

Of course you would. Who wouldn't? This kind of feedback is invaluable to any business, more valuable than any market research and no where near as costly.

When you allow customers to leave comments about your product on your blog you show them that you value their custom and are willing to listen to what they have to say. You might make the product, but your customer is the one who puts it to use and therefore your customer is the one who will find problems with it first. Believe me, you may think you have covered every contingency, but your customers will find problems that you have never even considered.

A blog is also a good way to keep customers informed about new products on the horizon. Wouldn't you like to pre-sell your upcoming products? Your business blog will let you list your products features long before it ever hits the stores. You can get your customers excited at the thought of your new product. Once you have their interest you can tantalise them with sneak previews. By the time your product hits the stores your customers will be first in the queue.

As a public relations tool, your blog is priceless. You can pre-empt any corporate scandal long before it hits the news stand. You can inform your customers about changes to your company structure, promotions etc.

In conclusion, your company blog is probably your biggest free asset, indispensable if used in the proper manner. By giving your customers the right to leave comments, you are showing them you care about their opinions. So, if you run a business and you don't have a blog, then you're going to get left behind while your competitors reap the rewards.
