The Creative Design Blog - A New Means of Expression For Graphic, Web, and Industrial Designers

By Fred McCoy

As the number of designers increases every year thanks to the steady output of art and design colleges around the world; the level of competitiveness increases exponentially making it harder and harder for specific designers to stand out from one another. This trend of designers trying to do 'everything' has sent some reeling back to focus on their specific area of study as a means to set themselves a part from everyone else by being good at just one thing. Yet another emerging trend for young designers is that they're starting to use blogs as a means to not only convey their work, but their various opinions on design around the world. The design blog is taking the web by storm.

Blogs originally started as nothing more than a means of expression for the young, angsty, and disenfranchised who had something they wanted to say but didn't want to the consequences of saying it out loud. Blogs have long since evolved into become a means of expression for anyone in any field. They have become especially popular in lieu of online magazines. Their content management systems design by companies such as Wordpress allow for users to retain control over high volumes of content with little to know technical experience. These blogs allow for new modes of artistic expression because it is almost imperative that users create blogs that look different than everyone else's. This rush for individuality has brought us truly entering blog designs and turned it into a lucrative field of expertise. The creative design blog has become almost an essential part in the fledgling designers life and I do not foresee designers separating themselves from the blogging world any time soon.

Fred McCoy is an editor for a creative design blog who focuses primarily on design ethics and industrial design.
