The Fastest Way to Get Your Blog Noticed by People

By Dock J Murphy

Traffic is always a problem with a blog or website. Thanks for giving info on how to increase more traffic. Traffic/customers are everything. The more people you expose your business to, the more chances that your business will sale.

Titles don't easily work for me. Since I don't do incoherence, it often took far more effort to title an entry than to write it. Title tags that are short, snappy, on-topic and catchy are imperative. You also want to think about search engines when you title your posts, since the engines can help to drive traffic to your blog.

Linking certainly doesn't guarantee you'll appear, since all posts are run though the usual tests for newsworthiness. In fact, extra steps to avoid spam are now in effect since faked referrals and splogs are already commonplace. Linking to prominent bloggers helps because they then see your blog in their ego feed and will probably take a look. Commenting also is a great way to get more exposure, and not just from the person whose blog you're commenting on, but also from those who follow that person's blog. Link to other blogs and post about other blogs. Let them know you've linked to them.

Link liberally and eventually someone might notice you. You can even send emails to bloggers telling them about your new site or post. Links to your site from other sites will boost your rating in search engines. Also, you want people who visit similar websites to cross over to yours. Link to other blogs from your blog. Outbound links are one of the cheapest forms of marketing available.

Commentors set the atmosphere of your site almost as much as you do. Don't be worried about traffic... there are 99 good conversation people for every 1 troll... ultimately your comments section will be a better and more inviting place for new readers if you moderate. Comments should be respectful of other voices in the discussion. I reserve the right to edit or delete comments at my discretion. Comment on other people's blogs as much as you can (without spamming). In most cases you can put a link back to your own blog and people do follow these links.

Search rankings are affected by site performance, especially server downtime. And sites like StumbleUpon, which can deliver significant traffic, will stop sending it altogether if the server is unresponsive for even a very short time. Search on the iPhone client is now improved and full-featured; you can search on any combination of keywords, tags and attributes. We replaced that icon to the right of the search box that no one understood. Searchers look for stories in their own locale, so anything I label "Waianae Coast" gets a lot of local traffic. Your neighbors have the same curiosity about the place you call home.

Social networking, self organizing, loosening the "rules". Social networks connect people with all different types of interests, and one area that is expanding in the use of these networks is the corporate environment. This makes them searchable and be connected to other business professionals.
