When your blog is new, it's going to take some time before the search engines crawl your blog, index the content, and eventually send a constant stream of visitors your way.
All search engines become the blogger's best friend. A well optimized blog will receive traffic once it gets indexed by the search engines. The more pages the blogger creates, the more traffic the blog gets. Here's how to optimize your blogs for the blog search engines.
First, make sure that you have the title of the blog post in the title tags. This is perhaps the most important factor that helps search engines identify the type of content on any particular web page. Choose something specific for the title. For example, choose a title like "How to bake green potatoes" instead of "Bake potatoes". This helps the page to rank higher in the search engines.
Second, use a static URL whenever you can. Most popular blogs like Wordpress or Typepad allows the blogger to enable an option where the URLs of the blog posts will become a static URL. Also, the keywords are included in the URLs, which make them more search engine friendly.
Don't worry too much about keyword density. Just write naturally but make sure that all content is unique. That means there must not be huge chunks of the blog post that has already been published somewhere else on the Internet. Unique and useful content almost always rank higher than duplicated content.
Third, ensure that your blog RSS feed has been setup properly. You can setup half feed or full feeds, depending on how you want your audience to access the content. Half feed means your RSS subscribers will get a portion of your blog posts and if they like to read more, they'll click through to your blog. If you allow full feeds, your audience can read the entire blog posts without having to visit your blog. Half feed is highly recommended.
The importance of having a valid RSS feed is that it can be submitted to many popular RSS search engines. These search engines are dedicated to indexing feeds and will help promote your blog and get you better rankings. RSS search engines provide an additional traffic source that most bloggers miss out on. So be sure to make a list of RSS search engines and submit your RSS feed.
In addition, you may also use a free service such as FeedBurner to burn your feeds so that subscribers can get updates in their email inbox without having to download additional software. This helps the blogger reach a wider audience.
Remember, there are many ways to promote a blog, and submitting your blogs (and the RSS feeds) to blog search engines and RSS search engines remain one of the most effective way to get free traffic.
